Is it correct that the term 'point' effectively means one pound in relation to the FTSE 100? eg if the index falls by 20 points - it means the collective value of all companies stock has fallen by 20 pounds?

points make prizes
It's an index measuring the price of a basket of shares of the top 100 companies. The percentage fall is a better measure of teh size of any reduction/increase. Or look at the individual share prices.
