Have recently had work done to the interior of my house for which I sent payment by Building Society cheque through the post last Wednesday by first class post to the builder.
Unfortunately he hasn't received the cheque -(he has informed me by e-mail) yet.
If I ask at my local B.S. branch tomorrow; will they be able to tell me if the cheque HAS been cashed??

Any help/answers MUCH appreciated. Thanx in advance.

They should be able, but even if they say no, it doesn't confirm that he hasn't received it.

Cheques generally take 3 days to debit an account. E.g. id in Monday, in the clearing system Tuesday, debit the drawers account Wednesday.

If you posted it Wednesday and assuming it arrived the next day (it could have taken longer!!), he could have paid it straight in or he could wait a day or two. Even if he paid it into his account the same day (Thursday) it wouldn't debit the BS account until Monday. A BS can't tell if a cheque has been paid in, they will only be able to tell you when the cheque was debited. If he paid it in Friday it won't debit till Tuesday.

Hopefully that makes some sort of sense!
