my friends ex has taken a load of his personal stuff like digital camera, mobile phone, tennis raquets, binoculars etc and is bragging to his mates that shes sold it on ebay- how do we find out her ebay id to check this out- have tried advanced search nd her email address is listed as a user but as we dont share a transaction they wont reveal her user id- is there another way to do this, or can he check on his pc somehow what she may have logged in as in he past-at present it defaults to his user id, is theresomewhere in a history that he can check, tried the obvious history bit at the side and it will bring up items she viewed but not what she was logged in as.

I'm not sure why you would want to check out the ebay listings etc.If she stole the stuff your mate should report it to the police and let them handle it.
Question Author
tried that but the police wont do anything unless we can give them some evidence, at the moment its one persons word against the others and as all have no previous criminal history police wont get involved saying its a civil matter, so we need this for the evidence to go back to the police with
I would force the issue with the police if it were me,theft is theft whether the parties involved knew each other or not,try posting in the law section and see what the legal beagles have to say.I hope your friend manages to get some sort of justice/money from this.
Is this ex-wife, ex live in partner, or ex casual girlfriend?
try asking on ebay, if you click on community and go to the forums there's a lot of people who know their way around the ebay site maybe they can help
Question Author
dianew- ok i'll try that, thank you, didnt even know there was such a thing, doh!!

Ethel-She is an ex live in girlfriend. She took virtualy everything from the house furniture/household goods etc with his consent but these items were his personal things some of which were gifts(not from her) and things he had before they were together, she came back to he house after they had separated whilst he was away and took them. The police said they will take it further if we can give them a shred of evidence that she has had the stuff to sell so thats why we need the ebay profile
lol ... it's a domestic ... and the boys in blue won't touch it unless violence is involved.

it always depends on the circumstances .... how has she got the stuff in the first place?

but it sounds to me as if it boils down to - next time don't turn your back on a vindictive ex .... get all the keys and always change the locks. (he can always get the phone pulled)

But in reality we only have your word that that's what happened .... before the finger pointing starts - there could be many other factors we know nothing about .... (burn the witch burn her!!!!!)

the only way you'll find the stuff (as far as I see it) is to do what everyone else does - search for .... canon (or whatever brand it is) camera and see what turns up (repeat 'till complete)
There's possibly a way of doing this- bear with me cos I'm not the best at explaining things....... did she sell theses things quite recently? First of all, if you are registered as a seller- you could start to list an item- if for example one of the items she sold was a Sony TV- list the exact same one, including model number, screen size etc, and some examples will be shown to you of "recently sold" of the same type. Her ebay id will be shown then as the seller. Good luck xx
If any of the items are a bit different, you can search eBay for 'completed listings' which brings up items sold within the last month or so. Obviously it is pointless if there are thousands of the things being sold.

The problem is proving they are his, that he never gave them to her as a gifts. She will say he did, he will say he didn't and the police wont' take action because it is impossible to prove.
"I'm not sure why you would want to..."

lol...can't get over the fact that when someone asks a question on AB at least half and often more of the answers have got nothing to do with the question. Mine included in this instance, sorry janetsflower

This post being no exception!
>she came back to he house after they had separated whilst he was away and took them.

Bit late now but as has been said, he REALLY should have changed the locks as soon as she left.
This question is titled "Finding an ebay member"

I rest my case
Question Author
Bathsheba- thank you for that suggestion, yes she has sold the stuff fairly recently so i will try what you suggest and see how i get on
Question Author
camioneur - i agree, whenever i post things there are people who post answers that are totally irrelevant, sometimes they want some more info to help answer which is all well and good but some times they are totally abstract or very judemental which i do find frustrating but have learnt to ignore, but i suppose its better than not getting an answer at all
So camioneur - are you going to answer the question ..... or just make stupid observations

not all the answers may meet your rigorous criteria but unlike yours they are submitted by people genuinely trying to help or contribute something

not so much pot calling kettle ... more a lunatic trying to take over the asylum?
so AC, you think that recommending someone go to the police is a genuine attempt at helping the person who posted the question? If that's the case you need to crawl back under the bridge from whence you came and resume your Dear Miss Proops column as clearly you have no concept of the type of answers required on AB! I'll say one thing though, you're consistent. You were an opinionated @rsehole the first time I ran across you and you clearly still are! Good day

Goodness me, I didnt want to provoke an argument just an idea how to find an ebay member - anyway thanks to Ethels completed listings hint we've managed to find some of the said items, so thank you very much, maybe we wont get anywhere with the police but at least we will have tried and it should at least make her think twice
