A few weeks ago, I got a standard letter from the Halifax regarding bank charges, and how pending an appeal, they are still not paying out.

I cannot find that letter now, and need to write to them regarding this, because my complaint has - for some totally unknown reason - been lumped in with all these, and I need to make one final attampt to get things sorted before going higher.

Basically, they imposed charges in february last year as a result of withdrawing my overdraft and not informing me. To cut a long story short, I told them to stick the account, and send me a closing balance by return which I would then transfer, and then close the account. They didn't, and subsequent charges were imposed solely because I was waiting on them. 8 letters later, they have still not closed the account, and would you believe I have never had a straight response to my comments - arguing it is one thing, but just ignoring it is another.

Anyway, anyone else get one of these letters, and if so, could you provide me with the address on that letter.

Sorry Postdog, I don't understand this. What were the "subsequent charges" for that they imposed "solely because you were waiting for them"? They can't be for remaining overdrawn because you say you had a closing balance which you wanted them to pay you. If you can explain what these charges were for we may be able to help.

It's not rocket science. An overdraft facility was withdrawn without properly notifying me and I fell slightly below a zero balance - they relied on electronic notification when they shouldn't have, and I didn't have a PC.

Consequently, I was subjected to charges, which I wasn't going to tolerate after having the account for 20 years and never previously having any problems or charges whatsoever. I asked them to cancel the charges imposed under the circumstances that they didn't tell me my facility had been removed, and to reinstate the overdraft (which was a �50 buffer zone). They refused, so I told them to stick the account, returned my card, and asked them to provide a final closing balance which I would then transfer from my other account. They didn't, and as a result of their failure, despite paying in to maintain a zero balnce, they kept adding charges. If they had closed the account when I asked, these subsequent charges would not have been imposed - I made various requests for a final figure required by them to close the account, they didn't, and I am 90 pounds at least out of pocket.

Forgot to add, to get round trying to keep a zero balance, I actually paid more into my account so it was in credit for sure. That was June, and despite request after request, they have still not closed the account and returned the excess.
Sorry, this may not be rocket science but the way you explain it, iyour argument doesn't make sense to me.

For them to keep adding charges you mustn't have had enough in your account. If your account is overdrawn (even if it's because of charges) the bank isn't going to close your account until it's straight.

If the charges were levied in accordance with the terms and conditions then it seems to me your complaint is n different than those claims that "you have been lumped in with".

The charges will build up unless you can pay all charges or come to some agreement with the bank.

You may win some charges back when the current full review of charges is completed (maybe next year) but that may take a long time and it's a gamble.

The best bet i think is to pay up, close your account and then put your claim in and hope teh decision goes your way
