We have just won a reduction of 800 off the rateable value. The letter says that this is backdated from April 2005. We have only had the premises since 2007. Will we get a rebate on what we paid last year. Every little bit helps.

You should by now have got your refund backdated to 2007. If not, phone the council and ask for it. Also the previous owner is still able to claim their portion of the refund for 2005 to 2007, so if you know them make sure they have claimed it too.
By the way are you due an extra refund for small business relief? Mke sure you are claiming for it as it is not automatic.
