Is my Barbados marriage recognised here

I got married in Barbados in 1994 and am getting advice on divorce havent seen him since 1995, was told the marriage may not berecognised here, if it is how do I go about divorce if we are not in contact and dont have an address to send papers.

any help would be great

It should be recognised in the UK if it was done legally and registered in Barbados.

Has your husband ever lived in the UK?

Start things going now by writing to him at his last known address - keep a copy and send it by registered post. You need to prove that you are taking all reasonable steps to trace him.

Put an ad in the paper local to his last known address asking for the whereabouts of him.

Write to any family you know of, asking for his address.

If you have no success in finding him you will be able to divorce him on grounds of desertion (after 2 years of his leaving) or living apart for 5 years or more - but it will take time.

You will need to prove that you have taken all reasonable steps to find him in the event that he turns up after the divorce.

yes it is recognised in the uk, you need to go through the same process as if you were married in the uk
