I am trying to tranfer money from an Alliance and Leicester Isa to another provider. They are very helpful when it comes to transferring money into their bank but don't like it going elsewhere.

The format of my account number with All/Lei is not the usual format and they don't give a normal sort code at all !

Am I the only one having this problem

I was discussing transferring an ISA from one bank to another and they said they do it for you. They just said check that with the one you are removing it from that they don't charge you a fee to transfer it.

You cannot transfer ISA money to another provider yourself - you HAVE to ask the new provider to collect it. If you don't it loses its tax free status.

And A&L have a myriad of sort codes, sometimes two different for the same account depending on what you are doing. Don't try and second guess them if you don't know what you are doing.
In my case the A&L sort code has 5 digits and I need to add a 6th digit which is the fist digit of my 9 digit account number.- which I was given by post. All very confusing.
But you must get it right- check with A&L.

Thanks for your replies but they don't really answer my question. I know I need to get the new provider to request transfer. I have down loaded forms for this purpose and, in the case of Barclays, they are straightforward and I can fill them in and send them to Icesave.
BUT I cannot fill in the form for Alliance and Leicester!!

I have asked Icesave for advise and tried to get something out of All. & Lei. on line and over the phone.

I quess I shall have to visit the nearest A & L branch and shout a little.

The branch is hardly local but needs must.

The sort code is 72-58-10. I am trying to do the same thing and when I lookled up my original A & L documents I had the sort code written on it. I've put it into google and I'm sure its correct. Hope that helps.
As some people have said, your bank have to do it for you but you still have to complete the form and as you rightly say the banks don't want to lose your money and are difficult about giving away this info. I'm now trying to find NSI 's sort code. Any ideas? I have e-mailed them but not expecting a reply!!
Sorry just realised that these questions are a year old!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm losing it.
I am thinking about doing the same. I opened the ISA earlier this tax year - do I have to wait until the new tax year to transfer it?
