Hi, my hubby left his job in Jan, was out of work for a week then got another, they laid him off after 3 weeks, as they had no more work, he's a plant driver. He has now had no job for 2 weeks, I only earn about 100 per week, get tax credits of 57 per week. Like everyone else got bills & mortgage to pay, but struggling at min. Is there anything we can claim benefit wise til he gets another job. Dont like to be behind with bills etc. Many thanks, Jane

if he's been laid off he should be able to claim jobseekers allowance.

Many thanks lou, will have a look at them.
mmm, tax credits the pain to all actual taxpayers,

on 100 per week and a standard tax code you would noy be paying any tax,

surely a 'credit' is a refund? by definition

sounds like a hand out to me

enjoy!

tax credits are not a refund! try looking it up before you post on here. they are to top up your earnings. you only recieve tax credits if you work! its called getting little something back if entitled.

We get child tax credits, got 2 kids under 4, dont get working tax credit, as my hubby was on a good wage. Thanks, Jane
gem,
if you read you will see it was a question?

still if you would be happy and contented getting 154 by magic from a 100 job,

i think most people would like a job like that, unfortunately the mathematics dont add up for everyone to enjoy that result,

there must be many responsible givers to fund the takers

'getting little something (back)'?
back from where?
me in part i guess and all the many other givers

still, its nice to know my hard earned tax is going to an irresponsibly worthy cause

i have payed my tax and national insurance for years so that is where i get something back from! if it is on offer and i am entitled to it i will bloody well take it.
a lot of people take it when they arent even entitled to it!
oh and if you bothered to actually look at tax credits they are to bump up your earnings. its not a fixed amount everytime you get it either it depends how much money you have earned and how many hours you work!
dont f*****g start at me love! its not like im just taking and frauding benefits. im entitled to it so i have it! i have bills and mortgage to pay just like a lot of people!

Gem, I am like you, if entitled to it why not claim it. As you say many out there frauding benefits. Rang job seekers yesterday, hubby could only claim for one day, as thankfully he started new job today, not worth claiming for one day tho really, it wouldn't buy us much.
thanks im glad someone agrees. helpmetoo was trying to make it sound like its an offenece to take what your entitled too!!!
