I have recently opened up my own limited company and required start up capital, in the form of an overdraft facility. My wife is a director and as such had to have a credit check done, and was declined on the basis of what seems to be an association with some adverse credit that i have.My wife will not take credit out in any form and never has done, and the bank say we have to get a hard copy credit report as they will not accept an internet one.The problem i have is on a public register and the bank could have used that to confirm my wifes clean credit history,or could they?.i have had a nightmare trying to get a credit report, due to equifax saying they never recieved docs twice! and have cashed my cheques!and it would have had been great if the bank could have just checked the register.Has anyone ever had similar treatment from banks/equifax and any advice or comments?.

Most banks rely mainly upon experian, as they are the largest credit reference agency in th UK. You can get your report ordered via their website, www.experian.co.uk

You are unlikely to get a banks decision overturned, in my experience, as staff seem to rely on the computer saying yes or no more often than using common sense.

Good luck

If you have started up a limited company and had your wife put on as a director, then obviously your finances are linked.

This means that if anything went wrong with your debts, they can chase the shared items (eg house).

If your wife has applied for an overdraft facility, then she has applied for credit.

The only option you have is to try another bank or just ask your bank for basics banking facilities and attempt to get finance through a finance broker.
