I am trying to find out whose account my cheque (Barclays) was paid into as the person I named in the cheque has not received funds. My account has been debited and the cheque voucher states the sort code of a NatWest bank and a/c no. but NatWest will not confirm whose account it was paid into - quoting Data Protection Act. Any ideas where I go from here? They wont even confirm or deny that the money was paid into his account. Surely I am entitled to kn ow where my money has gone?

If the person for whom the cheque was intended did not receive it, then just report this fact to your bank. The cheque was stolen and therefore whoever received the money was not entitled to it. It is not up to you to try to track them down. - apart from anything what would you do when you find out who it is? Go round to their house and ask for it back? That could land you in all sorts of trouble! Let the bank handle it and don't get involved. They will refund the money to you and you just issue a new cheque.
