Hi all,
Can anyone tell me how much a million pounds in 1970 would be worth today?

It depends on how you measure relative value. The results computed from five popular methods indicate that after 37 years the �1,000,000 would be equivalent to;

�11,617,961.56 using the retail price index
�12,012,600.23 using the GDP deflator
�22,589,018.83 using average earnings
�25,800,758.51 using per capita GDP
�28,134,964.39 using the GDP

In 1970 you could buy good detached houses for �10,000 and which are now selling above �400,000. Work it out!
Well if you left it under the bed it would still be worth a million pounds. However I think the other answers are probably more on the spot :-)
my maws hoose wis 8 grand in 1975 and is now worth half a million.
