can i be asked to work unpaid overtime?

My workplace is putting me through college on a day release basis to become more qualified at what i do. My boss pays my tuition fees but he has told me i have to owrk extra hours at the weekend for free as he is helping me with the financial side of my course. Is this legal?

He can ask, but its up to you if you want to do it.Not sure of the legal side but consider this.When you get your new qualification ask for more pay ! This qualification stays with you for life and you will be able to take it with you to a new employer.you know what they say "speculate to accumulate".
You will be the one who benefits in the long run !
