Yes you are liable. It is a standard term with loan and credit companies that the debt may be sold on or otherwise transferred.

When you signed the forms, you agreed to it.

Always read the small print.
Yes very much so and it will if you dont resolve it go to court and may gat a CCJ against you which will affect possible future credit. The way i see it ctony is you ran up the 1000 debt and was happy to spend the money so you have to pay it back
hi.
Im sorry to say that your liable for the debt any also any additional charges that have been incurred by who brought the debt, your on very shaky ground, as it could easily end up in court , where youd get a ccj, *there on your credit record for 6 years, realy effects your future credit.
Whilst I apriciate that some of the money owed will be from charges etc. You need to make arrangements to start paying, even if its small amounts, but regular.
have you cpnsidered you may be able to make a claim, against Capital one for unfair charges, goto the following site
www.Fool.co.uk
in the seach bpx put in bank charges, ( applies to credit cards), and they have templates of letters.
good luck
