Is it possible, in the banking world for a painless method of monthly donations to charities to be made?
If people with bank accounts could arrange for the odd pence in their bank balance each month to be automatically donated to a charity of their choice, there would be a tremendous opportunity to help charities. Almost everybody would not miss these pence but millions could be raised each year. What do others think?

I'm pretty sure there is one bank that does offer something like this - can't remember which one though.
We do that through our payroll - any pennies on our pay go to charity. I think it's called Pennies From Heaven.
Well it would be an average of 50p per month so those that are that way inclined can just set up a SO to their chosen charity! voila!

I agree with Loosehead that it could be arranged for every individual to make those arrangements but more people would be inclined to participate if it could be made extremely simple. For example, if a bank issued a leaflet with a bank statement for the client to write in the name of the charity or could be done through the internet. The easier you make it the more people will join in.
The Pennies From Heaven scheme is run by Barclays, Cadbury, Capital One and many others. Ref: http://www.penniesfromheaven.co.uk/membersf.ht ml
And to answer the first question - YES it is possible - how many people would sign up for it tho - is debateable.
Sorry - forgot to add - Barclays was the founder of the PFH scheme if memory serves me correctly.
