I am not clear on everything you are saying in your post. You do not give any time scale on these debts. The chances are they will hang around for quite some time, depending at what stage they are at i.e. County Court Judgements.

What amounts are you talking about - 1,000s?

What is the connection with paying loads for your rent?

With a bit more information and clarification of some points, someone should be able to help you.
Bad debts and CCJ's usually stay on your credit files for 7 years.
Credit Reference agencies log CCJ's and credit queries - the time CCJ's appear for is 6 years and you will need a "Certificate of Satisfaction" from the issuing court to have it removed - this usually cost 10.

You can also have averse information removed when it was added due to a financial connection with a partner.

You can also add an explaination on your credit file which lenders will see when you apply for credit.

Credit Expert ( previously Experian ) can help you.

Law Man 1856 is correct and I just add that for 2 your can request a statutory copy of your credit report from Experian, Equfax or Callcredit the 3 main credit reference agencies.
