Does income tax allowance still change when you marry?

I remember several years ago when I did finance at college that we were told that when you got married your income tax personal allowance (the amount you could earn each year before you got taxed) changed. Is this still the case? If so what's the difference these days? I tried looking on the Inland revenue website but just got confused.

No - it was scrapped years ago.
No it's no longer true - not unless you are in your 70s that is.
It changed more than 'several' years ago though. I'd guess nearer 20.

Thanks guys, although, for the record, it was only 12 years ago that I was at college :)
It was actually 2000 that it was withdrawn - more recently than I thought.
