On my 69,000 repayment mortgage, i have to have an insurance which covers me for death, unemployment and serious illness. I pay 85 a month for this.

But, i'd like to think that i could insure myself against the above by using a more productive method. At the moment, i pay the premium and that's it.....i never get anything back.

But is there anything out there where i could, for example, pay into this insurance and get a small windfall after 10 years....a bit like a type of endowment !

Any suggestions ?.......i just feel the money i pay is "dead money"

Do you have to have it ???? I have a small mortgage and I just said I didn't want to take out the insurance and they just went ahead and gave me it.
