my girlfriend wants her name off the joint mortgage i have the money in the bank to buy her out so do i just have to fill in a transfer of equity form and also do i have to contact a solicitor to sort out the deeds

In short - yes!


Even if you were able to do it all yourself, I wouldnt because it has to be absolutely water tight to stop her coming back in X years and making a claim.


Its not so much who the mortgage is in the name of but the deeds, this is the important piece of paper you want to be clear is in your name only as well as the mortgage.


You will need to contact the mortgage lender, who will want to be satisfied that you are capable of managing the mortgage on your own, regardless if you have already been doing so, you will still have to be accepted.


The solicitor will be able to do all this for you. They will also have to be satisfied that your girlfriend has had the opportunity to take independent legal advice for the transaction.
