I have had no luck searching on Royal Mail or Post Office, I know it is possible to pay extra to insure a parcel for 100, 250 or 500, but I cannot find how much this costs.

TIA

Using this postal calculator ...

If you send a parcel using Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day (guaranteed before noon delivery) it is automatically covered for loss or damage of 500 which can be increaseded to 1000 or 2500 and you can purchase consequential loss up to 10,000.

e.g. a 1 kg parcel to a UK destination would cost

5.35 (500 compensation)
5.80 (1000 ... )
6.70 (2500 ... )

Having checked other weights of parcel it appears that the upgrades are fixed amounts of

500 → 1000 = 45p
1000 → 2500 = 1.35
As a comparison with Royal Mail Standard Parcels (delivery aim 3 days) for a 1 kg parcel

Automatic 30 comp. = 3.60
Upgrade to 100 ... = 4.35
Upgrade to 250 ... = 5.35
Upgrade to 500 ... = 6.60

So from 250 up it is cheaper to use the faster service with higher compensation!
