Are there any comparisons, are they looking at paying as much as we are in the UK ie £2.5- 6k per year in Euro or local currency equivalent.

EDF are 85% French owned and a principle energy provider to the UK, but France pays only half what we do for energy, this sounds a ripoff to me.
is this anything to do with us no longer having trade deals with EU countries? (It may not be.)

35% of UK electricity generation comes from fossil fuels (which is where the price rises are coming from), whereas only 7% of France's electricity is derived from fossil fuels. 49% of electricity in France comes from hydropower, whereas only 2% of UK electricity comes from hydropower (including tidal sources).

It's countries such as Sweden, where only 0.5% of electricity is derived from fossil fuels, which one might reasonably expect to be most resilient to rising gas prices.
