My total monthly income is as above. After rent and all direct debits are paid for, I have a Nett amount of £268.05.

This will be for petrol, food etc. Bearing this in mind, do you think I should pay £41/month for a funeral plan over 10 years? Thanks.

I have 30 days to change my mind and get a full refund of the £500 I have paid so far.

I am not sure why it would be worth prepaying it unless you are trying to deprive your assets in some way to help with means tested benefits. Unless you can manage easily without the money I'd either leave it for my estate to worry about or I'd just try to puta few pounds aside whenever I have some spare
on those figures I would say definitely not.
It depends what kind of funeral you want. Personally I wouldn't pay that.

No. I’m not trying to deprive my assets because I don’t ha e wry much. I’m just trying to stop my two children from having to shell out, thousands.

It covers a funeral for about £3850.00. Basic casket, one limo etc.
Maybe give them £41 a month then? Or put maybe £20a month away in a special account. Do you have a particular standard of funeral in mind? I recall it is possible to get a very basic one paid for largely/wholly out of public funds if there isn't enough in the estate if your family don't choose to pay for one
Yes, there is a basic funeral allowance.
Have you considered not having a conventionl funeral....just a "direct cremation"? That's what we've chosen....about £1200 (or less) at today's prices.
Question Author
That’s just it, ff. I know they will want to pay for a big funeral.

I think I like the idea of putting what I can away each month and not being tied to a set amount each month.
Chrissa - that will be for them to decide. I'm sure they'd rather you kept the spare money while you were alive.
Have you considered a Direct Funeral which although very basic is also very cheap.. no one attends the cremation which is also my wish not up put family through the trauma of a funeral. No flowers you cany see them, no newspaper adds..anyone who needs to know will be informed by word of mouth..Half the price..that'll do for this old bird!
Question Author
Interesting, ginge. I don’t think they would go for that though.
Question Author
I think you’re right ummmm.
Agree about the direct funeral. With the £500 you would get back you wouldn't have much to put to and you would have paid for your funeral.
Personally Chrissa, I don't think it's for them to decide.
These are the people I used last year, and they are excellent.

I would put that money into a savings account so that, should you need it for an emergency, it is accessible. A basic funeral costs around £1200 and I am sure, without any unforeseen emergencies you will at least have covered that. Your will could state just what type of funeral you want and your children really should follow your wishes. Don't make your life tougher than it needs to be I am sure your children would prefer you to be comfortable.
Question Author
That’s very interesting, ginge.

Thanks for that MallyJ.
That’s nearly 5 and a half grand. Far too much.
Enjoy your money now while you can, and save a quarter of that amount, for your decedents to bury you.
have you discussed this with your children?
Question Author
Yes, woofgang. They are worried that I’m taking in too much.
