In the context with which I'm familiar, it means Gross Domestic Product... simply put, it is the total value of all goods and services produced by various countries... In the U.S., the GDP in 2004 was $11.7 trillion, while the U.K., for example, was $1.782 trillion, China was $7.62 trillion...you'll have to do the conversions for Pounds Sterling equivalent...
