Sounds like something from Oceans 11. Looks like they abseiled down the lift shaft with heaving cutting equipment.

Must've taken a fair bit of planning, along with inside knowledge. Not your common or garden thieves.
Possibly. Or at least reduced time available to grab & go. But maybe the low risk/cost analysis showed it not to be worth investing in.

Fortunately I'd taken away my diamond tiara to wear to the duchess's grand Easter ball. I think I may just keep it under the mattress from now on.

Interestingly (and I suspect someone might lose their job) it said in the Metro paper today that someone asked the security guard why he didn't go into the building to investigate the alarms going off, and he said he wasn't paid enough to do that.....
