Erm, we need to know what plant exactly...?

As mentioned, the type of plant it is determines what type of cutting you take and when you take it.

Most shrubs can be grown from semi-ripe tip cuttings from August to October. Some plants, especially houseplants can be grown from softwood cuttings and others such as vines and some shrubs can be grown from hardwood cuttings during the plants dormant period.

However, there are some plants that cannot be grown from cuttings at all !!!

If it is a type of plant that can grow from cuttings then yes it is really easy, Try here for a step by step guide   http://gardening.about.com/od/gardenprimer/ss/Cuttings.htm
