I am a numpty when it comes to money and banking, BUT, I have just been given some shares in a company called Coe Group. I can't work out if the share price is £8.50 or .085p ???? Can anyone enlighten me please?

As others have indicated, you've got the '£' and 'p' signs interchanged in your question:
