hi, im not sure where to post this question,?? a friend who,s mother died lately,has discovered a box containing quiet a lot of stamps,he has no idea about them ,and there dont seem to be any local dealers in his area "south wales",has anyone got any advice as to where to start,many thanks for any suggestions

Don't get yourself too excited about the possible value - in all probability you will get next to nothing for them, even if you can find someone who wants them at all.

Their value in the catalogue will be many times the sale price.

When selling a collection some years back I was offered about £20 for thouands of stamps - the dealer freely admitted it was...

What do you mean 'quite a lot'? Several hundred or several thousand?
Give them to charity unless you consider them too valuable. Leukaemia and Lymphoma receive stamps to help combat blood cancers. LLR, Eagle Street, London or local branches.
I would be very careful with using local stamp dealers as a lot of them ar unscrupulous, worse than antique dealers. If near London, get to Stanley Gibbons in The Strand and get a proper evaluation.
