My daughter went for an upgrade on her mobile phone and was turned down because the billing address for her bank account is my house.

It is a rented house and therefore was not included in my bankruptcy and my daughter has no financial associations with me.

Can this happen and how can I put it right. It looks like "the sins of the father" and all that. Very wrong. TIA.

What do both your credit reports say?
Question Author
Bankruptcy.
So, you were declared bankrupt and your daughter's credit report says that she was declared bankrupt too?
Haven't got an answer but just wanted to say that I do feel for you. HSBC wouldn't let me open a bank account for thing 1 and 2 because of our bankruptcy.

I stopped my account with Experian when I became bankrupt because it was an overhead I couldn't afford. I don't think my daughter has done one ever.
Mark- I think Chrissa was just correct her spelling rather than answering your query
Come on Chrissa, work with me! What do BOTH your credit reports say?
Question Author
Ha, I was factor.

My daughter was told by the lady at the phone shop that my address was showing up as one of a bankrupt and as my daughter lived here when not away, her bank statments etc come here.
Well there's your answer. I'm afraid that's just how credit scoring works.
Question Author
I'll just kick her out then shall I?
I expect she will just have to keep the phone she has (think how much money she will save) and will have to bide her time. Things do get better even though it seems like it takes for ever, x
Don't shoot the messenger, Chrissa, I don't make the rules!

But, since you ask, it's the address that's the problem. However, until you are free from your term of bankruptcy, any future address at which you are registered will be liable to the same thing...

Wasn't getting at you MarkRae , it just seems unfair.

I'm free on 5th December.
Sorry Chrissa, you are not free on December 5, you will still blighted by it for another five years after the initial first year of bankruptcy (and I don't know how it affects stuff after that as you will have no credit score).
Actually addresses can't be blacklisted, and if your daughter has no financial association with you your bankruptcy shouldn't matter at all. Get your credit reports as Mark suggests to see what's really going on.
Question Author
Well seeing as how I'm a very young OAP and just have my pension to live on, I'm not going to be really bothered about a poor credit score.

Nox, thats what I thought. I'll get her to do a credit score when she's next home.
"I'm not going to be really bothered about a poor credit score"

No, but it doesn't just affect you, does it, as you've found out.

Perhaps your daughter should use her other address as her main address and get on the electoral role there?
If your daughter has no financial association with you (no joint accounts etc) then your bankruptcy should not affect her in any way. Addresses are not blacklisted, people are.

She needs to get copies of her credit reports (from all 3 credit reference agencies) and if there is anything on there regarding your bankruptcy, she needs to contact the CRA and apply for a Notice of Disassociation.
