I'm looking into trying to claim back some mis-sold PPI. I have read a lot about this online - most helpful. The only thing I am unclear about is that we had a mortgage with Santander which was sold to us by a mortgage broker. Do we then have to write to Santander direct or to the mortgage broker with the requisite questionnaire? Anyone know?

Good point - I think it was stand alone cover
if it was more than 6 years ago (via a broker) then you may have problems, i had the same and the FOS rejected it.
We have just used a company that go's back 40 years.
They were excellent. We paid them commission but it takes all the hassle out of doing it yourself.Dont know if i can give their contact details on here though.
"We have just used a company that go's back 40 years."

PPI mis-selling first occured in the 1990s and concerns were not raised until 1998. Mis-selling has not been possible since 2009.

Recovery of an unsecured debt is not legally enforceable beyond 6 years, but the FSA has produced guidelines which places an obligation on companies to repay claims for PPI sold over 6 years ago if the claim is lodged within 3 years of the policy holder realising (or should have reasonably known) there was a problem with the sale of the policy. Who was unaware of PPI mis-selling 3 years ago?
I have just received a payment for mis-sold PPI from Barclays for loans going back to 2002 and 2003. I only put a claim in 6 weeks ago.
We're reclaiming through an agency and so far have been successful, two have been referred to FOS as initially the lending banks declined the claim. Some people say they'd rather do their own claiming - I'd rather pay someone else with a good track record to manage the claim, I don't have time or a good enough memory to keep chasing up the claims.
The FOS has a stricter policy than the FSA - FOS won't entertain a claim for PPI sold more than 6 years earlier. There was a tempory extension to the 6 years for claimants who received a final response letter between 28 November 2009 and 28 April 2010 inclusive.

Sorry, that is the wrong link and is in reference to the 6 month limit for referrals to the FOS,
