My daughter phoned a mobile number advertising a job in London. It turns out this number is Sri Lanka and she has a bill of £242 for the month. I think I know the answer but any chance of redress?
I would add she took the job but there would be little chance of redress there - not nice people.

I think there is a good chance this was a scam and the job didn't exist. Is it an established company? If not, I doubt anything can be done.

Sorry, sue- I didn't spot that this time you say she took the job.
I assumed she hadn't taken the job based on your previous post (on another thread), in which you said "I would add the job offered was naff so I doubt if there would be any come back there "
If the number was clearly an international one then one has to pay what for what one uses. I assume the number was long enough, starting with a 00 (or maybe +) ? In which case the caller knows and opts to make and be charged for the call.

On the other hand if it was a national number which had roamed to Sri Lanka then the called party should have been liable for the forwarded portion of the call, and it ought not to have appeared on your daughter's bill.

The third option was that it was a premium rate number she called, I suppose, in which case the caller pays again.

Probably worth finding out the facts and querying your service provider, but I suspect your daughter's bill may be correct.
As O_G suggests, further information is needed. Even an hour long call toSri Lanka (on Vodafone's PAYG tariff, as an example) costs under £30. It's hard to see how a single call (or a series of short calls) could contribute substantially towards a £242 bill for the month.
