Daft innit?

How on earth can someone possibly use a grands worth of stamps? False economy!
Mail Order Boo
Someone bought £1.000 (1 pounds worth) or did you mean £1,000 (1,000 pounds worth? One pounds worth is not a lot of stamps but a grand's worth certainly is!

Signed

The (newly formed, and very pedantic) Mathematics Police

G.P. O. = GENERAL POST OFFICE. wHAT DO YOU CALL IT THEN?
Chambers dictionary;
GPO, (until 1969) General Post Office, the UK postal service.
Yes, I know what it meant. Hasn't been in proper use for decades, though. Bit like Gas Board, water board etc.
I've bought a few hundred quids worth in the last week or so, why is it false economy Boo, I use tons of stamps?
I used to have a Sister in the Gas Board
Question Author
I understand, but what else would you call it now though? Ive always referred to it as "the general".
Can't see anything wrong in calling it the general post office (gpo for short)...each to his own I guess.
i stocked up when everyone else was fussing about fuel!

but it's all very well if you send letters of the normal size, which i do, but if you send parcels or packets they still need to be weighed and will be charged at the new price!

unless you have a digital scales!
