555 timer chips

Hi there. I have recently been using 555 timer chips in various different circuits and i was wondering if pin 5 is ever used. does any know if it is and if so wat is the circuit.

Yes.  A signal on pin 5 will modulate the output waveform. (my husband is an Electronic Workshop Manager).

I would dispute this.  I appreciate that you're URL is good.  The circuit is a multivibrator which can (on its own) only give out a square wave varying between 0v & Vcc.  To modulate or vary the o/p waveform subsequent components have to be introduced.
