The sales make me sick ...

I'm not particularly religious but two days without the stores opening would do most people some good. Two and a half thousand people queuing outside Next in the Bull Ring today for the 6.00 a.m. opening. Mrs Kirk went to Merry Hill to pick up xmas cards, paper and decorations for next year along with a few items to cover office birthday presents and daughters schoolmates presents for a few months. She witnessed people literally sweeping the entire contents of a shelf of perfume items reduced in Boots into a basket, take them over to a quiet corner and sort through them tossing unwanted items where they stood. Dared to venture into Next a good few hours after opening to still see people hanging round as staff refilled rails only to drag them into bin bags without a glimpse at what the items were. Finally on the car park witnessing an individual who had difficulty closing the doors on a large family car due to the amount of Next carrier bags jammed within.

I understand times are hard and there is less money about but I can't see most of that stuff going home to keep the family going over the next few months. More likely car booting and Ebay although with the final sale charges Ebay now ask for I cannot see much profit being made.

I know it's first come first served and if they are willing to make the effort then maybe I should think good luck to them but it just seems pure greed and a poor reflection on our society.

Rant over so what are your thoughts at this late hour?

I prefer buying better bargains on-line having a coffee, without the hassle of the ignorant rude public pushing and shoving, and snotty sales assistants, who think they are doing you a favour!!!!

Well, one thing about Boxing Day is that I've never ever shopped for the sales on this particular day. I reckon all stores should be closed for an extra day. It would give all shop assistants a bit of extra time off.
If I had the power in government I would try and come up with something to get ALL stores to close on Boxing Day.
It's getting far too commercialised for my liking!! :(

In the 70's I used to go to London for a week for the New Year sales, when there were proper bargains to be had. I once spent a whole day in Harrods :-(

I have seen the same thing, M&S have sales every so often but there are very few Asian ladies go to Marks when the sale isn't on, but you can watch them fill their trollies to the brim with rails full of of ladies underwear or mens trousers-all sizes-any-size will do no-one else gets a look in when a sale is on.

my daughter works part-time for Next, and I feel sorry for her.. the hours she has to work around their sales are astounding.

anyway, some people can't resist a bargain. they look at what they're saving rather than what they're spending. personally, I think those that buy masses of stuff are sending them abroad.

In fact, I doubt if I'll shop even on this Bank Holiday Tuesday!!
I'm going to wait until the new year Sale extravaganza. You never know, I might find some bargain somewhere!

Oooooooh craft is rich. I have a friend ish so to speak who always goes shopping with a Harrods carrier bag.

Good point Sara, never thought of that but it ties in with ASG's comment about M&S, a point I was considering making but chickened out of.
