I cashed money for, what I thought was a mate, on my credit card, and he now owes me a significant amount. He isn't answering his phone or responding to letters I sent to his address.

I have the lodgement receipt I made to his account, as proof. Is there any means I could get it back?

Private Investigator? Then small claims court when they are found.

I wouldn't have thought it would be worth a P.I as it would be expensive, just go straight to Small claims court. It isn't a lot, and if you win I think he will have to pay back your court costs. I did it once, it works.  If he doesn't turn up, it is all granted in your favour. Some friend he turned out to be!!
