my daughter has had her first payment of student loan paid into some one elses account, because she gave wrong sort code, they are saying they cannot do any thing, is this true, as the account they paid funds into was not the same name as my daughter, surely they have to check bank details with names before depositing funds,
the student finance co. has told my daughter she will have to sort it out her self? is this true?

Worth considering, Prudie, but I think the SLC would still seek repayment from the person who initially applied.
By the way, this problem of wrong account details must happen for several hundred students each year. The SLC must have an approach for dealing with it.
The Student Loan Company should contact the recipient bank and reclaim the payment. By law, the recipient cannot keep the funds as they were not entitled to them. The bank do not have to disclose the recipients name unless they refuse to repay the money, in which case it will be up to the SLC to take any legal action for theft.
If you type the sort code into Google, eg "Sort Code 12 34 56" it will come up with the bank details. Your daughter could write/call them and ask if they would contact the account holder.
life lesson number one? get information right!

but yes, the person can't keep it and she will get it eventually!
Hi- I was wondering whether there had been any progress on getting the money back
