Hi
My employer says that Friday is not classed as a bank holiday so if I work I get overtime rate per hour but if I take the day off then it has to come out of my holiday entitlement is this right? as I only have a few days left which I have put aside for a treat for my anniversary.
TIA

It depends where you work and whether you normally work bank holidays. My employer (NHS) has declared it a BH for people who normally get BHs off - those who work 24/7 can just take another day off in lieu. Your employer policy about this is your guidance, it sounds quite reasonable.
Unfortunately your employer is correct. Friday is not a bank holiday, it is a public holiday, which means your employer does not have to give you the day off and if you do take it they can take it from your holiday allowance.
As long as your company gives you at least the statutory minimum annual holidays (equivalent to 28 days including any bank/public holidays a year for a full time employee) then yes it can decide how the day is to be treated.
