Hi all

My tax code since April 2010 has been

BR

I only have one job and should have an allowance before I pay Tax.

I recently contacted the inland revenue they told me that I had 2 employments which is not true.

I have 2 records on my account for the same employer as they changed their paye code thus making it look like I have 2 jobs.

My question is who do I get to sort this out the inland revenue or my employer.

I am a little confused as the inland revenue have sent my employer a revised tax code but this is only to correct from December and not back dated to April 2010.

Between you, your employer and HMRC it should be possible to resolve this.
Are other employees at your firm experiencing the same problem?

I think you should ask your employer to clarify the situation with HMRC

I have contacted the lady who does the wages. Who says when she had inputted the new code it didnt show money owing.

She has in-putted the new code given to her from the HMRC, this has altered my tax for this month as it seems to be okay pay wise £100.00 more.

I have spoken to HMRC and they say I have over payed by £900.00
If HMRC confirm written rebate, show your employer.

Your employer better sharpen up or HMRC will pore through business accounts, not nice !
You'll get it back, garry, but it's not nice to find this mistake. I had something similar a couple of years back - I was TUPEd from one employer to the other and it was only when I had a letter from HMRC that I found they'd kept both employment accounts open, so they thought I had two jobs. I wrote to HMRC to clarify the position - it wouldn't hurt if you did the same, to explain the date the PAYE reference changed and that you only have the one job. The new code should set things straight for the rest of the tax year but it's worth checking, you will either get the money back in your pay or they may send you a separate payment and a new tax code for 2011-12. Keep an eye on it, your annual personal allowance for this year should have been about £6400 before you start paying tax.
