Is it possible for a 77-year old to get a mortgage? My mum lives in an ex-council house, which she owns outright. She wants to move nearer to us because she is lonely and you don't want to know what the neighbours are like! We have seen a bungalow which would be just right for her, but need to raise abour 50k.

It will depend on what income she has and whether the lender is satisfied that she will be able to meet the repayments.

Try googloing 'Pensioners Mortgage' and lots of links come up. Such as this one: http://www.mias-ltd.co.uk/retirement-mortgages .htm
