Credit card charge :-(

I have gone over my credit card limit, it is the only time ever and it was an accident.

What I want to know (and can't seem to find out anywhere) is:

a) how much do HSBS charge for going over the credit card limit (bearing in mind it is their intewrest charge on my purchases that has taken me over the limit).

b) How badly will it affect my credit rating, if at all? As me and my fiance are looking to apply for a mortgage later this year.

I have never missed a payment on current mortgage, loan or any other bills. Although I did once go over an overdraft limit once by a tenner and the bank got cross that I didn't pay it back quick enough, so they halved my limit and demanded 500 by end of the month.

Anyhoo, how bad is the situation??!! Ta all x

Probably not very bad.

If you ring up and say it was inadvertent (and because of charges) they will probably refund you anyway. They may even have automatically raised your credit limit to cover - but this is less common than it once was.
Hi there,
I think the charge will be about 12.00 as long as you get it back within the limit pronto. As this is a one off it should have no impact on your credit rating.

It's wierd about them taking action regarding a 10 excess. In my experience this wouldn,t be a problem unless the debt remained outstanding for more than 35 days.

As a general rule, HSBC do not place information with Credit Reference Agencies unless things get really bad - i.e. formal demand - so this really should have no impact on your mortgage prospects.

Good luck!
