Hot on the heels of Cheltenham comes the Aintree Festival which kicks off at 1.45 today. There looks to be some tasty races to enjoy, though, from a personal betting point of view, there are only 2 handicaps, one of which is the minefield that is the Foxhunter's.
There are 5 from Aintree in the ITV7 (begins with the 2.20), one from Taunton and one from Ffos Las.

ITV7; The above qualifiers plus; Pied Piper, Mad About Sally, Beau Haze & Clan Des Obeaux. £1 e.w. acca.

Best of luck, all.
On handy and off out for a walk and a pint at the Snowdon Llandudno. Meeting an old workmate for a chinwag. Proper lad, my van boy in 1970 and then he did 26yrs in the Royal Marines. He says it was easier than working for me. :)) Bit of a mixed bag in terms of numbers of runners and odds to be had so the ITV7 is split into 2 seperate punts from the 7 races. **** Win Acca, Trebles & Doubles, no single bets. Then ⁕⁕⁕ E/W Trixie E/W Singles. Good luck to all.

Correction, the Trixie/Treble bet would only realise £138 were it to be successful. I got it mixed up with a Patent (Howdilyoudo, Mad About Sally & Clan Des Obeaux) that will fetch the £208 if all 3 oblige.
That was handy. Little win double and when I came back home a tidy £2 E/W chaser on The Last Day. I love that old taff farmer.
Question Author
Well in Togo. My only success was a fiver win on Clan Des Obeaux. I then threw a fiver at Lady Excalibur in the bumper - plum last! Out of pocket but not by much.
Tomorrow is another day :-)

Thought i was in for a decent bet last night; first two (Pip's Tune and Koeman) obliging @ 11/2, then next 2 (Legend D'art and Atrafan) bombed completely. Can't win 'em all:-/
Today's meeting at Aintree has 4 handicaps for me to get my teeth into:-) Unfortunately it also has a 4 horse race:-(
The ITV7 takes in 5 from Aintree (1st leg again 2.20) plus both the 3.10 and 3.45 at Fontwell.
Time to get the slide-rule out :-)
On handy so that I can get out and enjoy the sunshine. Done the ITV7 but 4 of them are not worth my while putting into a bet. Done 3*** of them in an acca with the 1.45 race. Strictly an E/W punt that would make the evening news if they all won. :)) Good Luck all.

Highway One O Two @16/1 1.45Aint.
Allmankind @14/1 3.30Aint.*
Morning Vicar @29/1 4.05 Aint*(8 places)
Duke of Bronte @ 33/1 4.40Aint.*

£1 E/W Acca 30p E/W Doubles and Trebles, 50p E/W Singles.

The 4 others in the ITV7 are Jonbon, Bravemansgame, Heron Creek, and Go All The Way. Combined odds of about 17.3/1 all to win. No thanks chuck.
Question Author
Haha, Togo. I'm of the same mind as you re the ITV7. Hoping my man Henderson has a decent day:

1.45 Ain; Balco Coastal @ 17/2 - 6 places
4.05 Ain; Mister Coffey @ 7/1 - 8 places
4.40 Ain; Crystal Glory @ 7/1 - 5 places
5.15 Ain; Lively Citizen @ 8/1 - 6 places

Win singles, 20p L15, £1 e.w. acca. 4 placed = £27, 4 winners = £5,480.

3.30 Ain; Funambule Sivola @ 9/1 - £2 win
4.40 Ain; My Bobby Dazzler @ 25/1 - £1 e.w. (3/3 at Aintree)
5.15 Ain; Just The Man @ 25/1 - £1 e.w.

Also, because there's a bit of the 'Mug Punter' in all of us;

£1 e.w. double; Bobbie The Dazzler (4.35 Sed) @ 11/1 & My Bobby Dazzler (4.40 Ain) @ 25/1 - 4 places and 5 places respectively.

ITV7, all the above qualifiers plus; Jonbon, Bravemansgame, Heron Creek and Caro Des Flos.

And the best of luck to all :-)

Here's the line-up for tomorrows big race. Bear in mind the bottom 4 are substitutes should any of the others be withdrawn;

Right from the off, this was going to be one of those days when the stats took a beating with Langer Dan becoming just the 3rd fav in 32 years to win the opener. And so it has continued throughout the day. In the last chance saloon now with the win single on Lively Citizen and the e.w. on Just The Man in the 5.15. There's always tomorrow :-/
Stroll on. Glad I went out for the day. Need my crystal ball tomorrow by the looks of things. Ne'er mind no harm done.

Had £3 on Hey Bob - last leg of a L15 away from Aintree - which helped soften the blow of a dismal Aintree day.

I have taken advantage of 365's quite generous offer to refund half stakes back on all e.w. bets in the National (up to 11.59!!). Means that not only can i afford to choose a couple of extra selections, but i can also put a little extra on them :-)

While i have adhered mainly to the trends, there is one horse who ticks nearly all the boxes bit would have to smash one trend and that is the fact that no mare has won since before i was born. That horse is Snow Leopardess and i have had a couple of quid on to win @ 11/1.

Another i quite fancy to win is Eclair Surf who, thanks to defectors, has just scraped in off bottom weight. I have had the same bet @ 'enhanced' odds (365) of 16/1.

These are my £1.50 e.w. bets (£7.50 instantly refunded);

Run Wild Fred @ 16/1
Fortescue @ 28/1
Dingo Dollar @ 40/1
Two For Gold @ 40/1
Deisa Aba @ 66/1

Time to look at the rest of the racing, now :-)
Grand National day always was a weird one for the regular punter. Remember when the bookies used to be rammed with once a year visiters that used to wander about in a daze wondering how to write a bet, and blocking the counter so that you couldn't get a bet on the next race off. It is still weird even online. Done the ITV7 and a 4 horse Acca****. Was in a quandry because the 2.25 and 4.15 have two runners in each that are in my stable of "ones to watch". I have had to choose one runner in each to fulfill the ITV7 and my Acca but have done a daft 2X2 E/W double as well in case t'other 2 win. In the National I have already had one E/W bet on No10 @18/1 so have put that in my ITV7 and done two others E/W. May do another and do a tricast perm with the 4 runners. Good luck.

North Lodge @7/1 2.25Ain.*
Edwardstone 3.00Aint.
Daranova 3.08 BoD.
High Velocity @5/1 3.15 Th.*
Thyme Hill @5/2 3.35Ain.*
Shan Blue @3/1 4.15Ain.*
Longhouse Poet 4.15 Ain.
****£1 Acca. 40p Doubles & Trebles.

Kildisart £1.E/W @66/1. Commodore £1. E/W @33/1. Longhouse Poet £1. E/W 18/1. 4.15 Aintree.
Also done North Lodge/Might I(15/2) 2.15Ain. and Shan Blue/Espoir De Romay(12/1) 4.15 Ain. 4 x 50 E/W Doubles.
Question Author
While today is quite understandably all about the Gand National, there are other races taking place:-)

1.45 Ain; Mill Green @ 14/1 - 7 places
1.55 Ban; Taragrace @ 6/1 - 4 places
3.15 Thir; High Velocity @ 4/1 - 4 places
4.15 Ain; Killer Kane @ 9/1 - 6 places

4 x £2 win singles, 20p L15, £1 e.w. acca. 4 placed = £32, 4 winners = £5,164.

2.25 Ain; Three Stripe Life @ 7/2 (enhanced odds 365)
3.35 Ain; Thyme Hill @ 13/5 (enhanced odds 365)
3.43 Ban; Dawn Raider @ 2/1

£1 Trixie, £1 Treble for a poss £138.

Above qualifiers plus Edwardstone, Ajays Ways and, of course, Eclair Surf. Take out the odds-on jolly and done a £1 e.w. sixfold.

Best of luck, all.

Did you enter the Sky Sweepstake, Togo (same page as ITV7)? I drew Two For Gold.
Who did you get in the ITV 7 sweepstake, Ken? I got the 40-1 shot Mighty Thunder - still, better odds than Burnley staying up :)
Sorted. I drew Lostintranslation in the ITV7 sweepstake so I put £1 E/W on that and added it to Longhouse Poet, Kildisart, & Commodore and did an any order Tricast. 26 bets at 10p each. Possible £6k+ if I get 1,2,3 from the 4 runners. I once had the first 5 home and had not done a tricast. I was dismayed despite winning.
Question Author
I can go off folk real quick, you know:-J

Your question answered in the post above yours, gg :-)
Question Author
In '79 (Rubstic's year), my mate and i were on the Turf watching The Mighty Clarets (!!!) when, toward the end of half time, the result of the GN was announced. My greedy mate had the first 3 home and moaned that he hadn't put them in a Tricast. He was still moaning about it a week later!
Question Author
Not the result i wanted, obviously, but a brilliant result all the same. SW-C isn't bad for an amateur, is he? :-J Certainly knows how to ride Aintree.
As for the stats - the first 7yo to win it since the 40s says it all, really.

There's always next year :-)
