I would think it means exactly what it says - the guy likes the girl but doesn't want a relationship with her.

It doesn't necessarily mean that she isn't attractive, just could be that there was no 'spark' or that the bloke just doesn't see her as girlfriend material.

but if they didnt know the girl in question, what would make one think she isnt gf material?
It means he's gay.
Question Author
he isnt gay lol he has a came out of a 5 year relationship and has 2 kids!
If he " doesn't know the girl in question"...then what is he basing his remarks on????
Question Author
hes met her two or three times they went on a couple of dates, and he didnt wanna take it any further.
Ahhhh...you are saying then that he just doesn't -in your eyes-know her well enough. He may feel he is not ready......5years and 2 kids is a lot to have behind him. And maybe there is just no spark.
Question Author
he split with her 2 and a half years ago and said he wants to settle down now.
sounds like no spark with the girl, he has seen her a few times but is not feeling a spark, he probably gave it a few dates to work it out in his head (might be a slow burner) but after a few dates he probably felt she will only ever be a friend, nothing more.

you either hit it off or you dont, at least he has been honest about it
