No idea about the cream, but I can tell you I was 37 before I plucked up the courage to have a tattoo, and once it was done I couldn't believe I'd been such a wuss for about 10 years by not having one done earlier.

I honestly believe the fear of it is far worse than the actuall deed in this case.
I was also late 30's when I got mine, I didnt particularly want one but my husband said I wasnt having one - ever! Well...red rag to bull, I got one.
Like you BOO, I felt like I could take on the world when I came out, hated needles beforehand, but glad I did it.

Go for it Nicola. what tattoo are you having?
Hi Nicola, Boo is definitely right! I worked myself up before my first (and only, so far) tattoo last July. It's on my leg, occasionally quite near to bone, starting at my ankle, and is about 4 inches long overall.

Mine took around an hour and quarter. My tattooist told me not to use any numbing cream etc., and he doesn't use any pre-inking as it softens the skin and can make it hard to tattoo.

I read up on using cream etc., and asked tattooed friends how they felt, and they agreed that it was best not to use anything like that. Of course, it's personal choice, as is the advice the tattooist gives you on aftercare.

I think regardless of whatever cream you choose to use, there will still be discomfort-it's a needle poking at your skin! And the effects of the cream won't last long. For me, the sensation was sort of like a sting and a tickle. It's pretty bearable really, just uncomfortable. After a bit, you get quite used to it.

Good luck! Enjoy your art x

Thanks, : ) Thats nice to here lol evryone was saying it wud kill lol im just gettin a black keltic pattern so its noting to complex lol what did u guys get? xx.
Celtic pattern sounds good. I got a chinese dragon on my shoulder blade (also painful area) but would do it again. I didnt use cream at all even though Im a scardy pants.
Yeah I got some of that off people too Nicola! Oddly, it's usually people who don't have them that say that! Sounds like a nice one you've got planned, hope you're happy with it. Don't be afraid to direct your artist-it's your body, and tattoos are pretty permanent!

I got a climbing vine with leaves and flowers, which leads up to a butterfly. I had a really difficult year and felt it was a good time to get something as a permanent reminder of how hard I had worked to overcome everything! I love butterflies, and to me they symbolise freedom. Love it!

Me again :-)

I had this done on my shoulderblade.

The tattoo on the picture isn't actually mine, it's the one i copied from and mine's not sitting on that thing she's sitting on as I'd no idea what it was and thought it looked daft.

Oh and mine doesn't have a penny cellotaped underneath it either ;-)
Aw Boo, she's pretty!

:) Not sure I can get a pic of mine up. Darn it!
BOO that is nice

Hi Nicola, some friend!! ;) Wuss!!

Your artist does seem very good. And clean, which is important! The guy who has full arm pieces, and his chest and tummy done must be brave!!

http://www.eyeoftheneedle.co.uk/ was the guy I went to. He set up all the equipment in front of me, so I could see it was clean and OK. I found this really helpful. He also talked me through the whole process, and also answered any of my questions, without making me feel silly!

Don't be afraid to ask, ask, ask! x
Hi Boo
Just to let you know, unless you know already, the thing the fairy is sitting on is the chinese symbol for mother

Hi Nicola
No tattoos on me I'm afraid, too much of a wimp
Oh is it tboo? Cheers for that- perhaps I should have left in in then? I thought it looked like a cupboard on a wheelbarrow....lol
I've had a tattoo, and also had it removed. The tattoo removal was BY FAR more painful (not to mention expensive). Women have a higher pain threshold than men generally speaking anyway (this was confirmed by my tattooist who said women grin and bear it yet one bloke weed himself!!)
awww, yours is cute, B00 (even if it doesn't say mother). Perhaps you could incorporate a sounbox so it says maamaa when you press it?
That's highly tempting jno!

(still say it looks like a cupboard on a wheelbarrow)
hi nicola, person i no has had some sort of numbing cream/spray and they also had a tattoo with out it and said there hardly a difference, a tattoo is one of those pains you will forget and guarenteed your get another with in the year, when i got my first i was only 16 and said never again and i now have 6 and want another done.
Good luck for tomorrow
