I have a friend who ive known for about 2 years and i love spending time with her as we have such a laugh and can talk about everything together. She has a group of really close friends, and recently i feel like shes been gossiping with them about things that i tell her. She claims that shes not gossiping, and i "didnt tell her it was a secret" but i dont really feel like i need to tell friends when things are secrets. I dont want to lose her as a friend, but how am i going to say something without it being awkward between us?

Sounds like you need to have a chat with her and tell her you were disappointed when she talked about your personal things with other friends, but that in future you'll make sure she knows if something is secret and hope that she'll respect that fact.

If you don't mind me asking - how old are you? Not that age really makes much of a difference - if you don't feel you can trust her, hold off on the personal stuff for a while, and just carry on as mates. She should be enough of a friend to not want to gossip about you anyway.

Hope you sort things out .

Thanks for the reply. Im 18. I think youre right, its probably the best way to go about things, i just hate confrontation really, especially as im worried it will just make it awkward between us, but ive already stopped telling her things. I just think its nice when you have mates that you can trust and be able to tell them things without the worry that theyll be chatting to someone else about it. I thought most people grew out having to be told when things are personal and shouldnt be shared by college.
Some people never grow out of gossiping. One of my friends is 21, and I don't tell her anything anymore. She's told people things about me that they wouldn't even find interesting, just for the sake of gossip. She just loves gossiping and bitching. As a result I don't tell her things anymore! I would try not telling her anything for a while, and then maybe testing the water with something? But making it clear that it's personal?! And if she tells anyone else that, then that would be a perfect chance to talk to her about it. Good luck x
