Hi
I have a tattoo just slightly bigger than the old 50p piece. It is of a dolphin jumping through a ring of stars! Now I don't hate it im just not as keen on it as I once was. I quite fancy getting the dolphin covered over with a cluster of little stars.
There are a lot of good tattoo places around where I stay but does it turn out okay or does it look like it has been covered over.
Any words from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. I think a dolphin jumping through a hoop is pretty stupid to begin with but jumping through stars would look ridiculous. I aint being hasty baby but its just unatractive especially having a dolphin of all thing on your body you could at least of got a Shark or a Hamster or something but a dolphin is silly.
red_head, i have seen many examples of tattoos being covered up successfully. many of them are a lot larger than yours. I think that getting stars to cover it would be no problem at all.
The cover ups do not look like they have been done to cover something up.
I would advise going to a tattooist who has had experience in this, though. Ask to see any previous cover ups they have done. They won't mind.
Ask about for people's recommendations of good places. Don't just go to the first one you come across.

One fairly obvoius point is you need to think about colours. If you have a blue dolphin you wont be able to cover with a yellow star (just as an example) - you'd best get some advice on the best and more suitable colours to get, again your tattooist would be delighted to help you choose.

I'd just like to echo the advice of those who say to ask to see pictures of the tattoist's previous cover-up work before you take the plunge - my husband had quite a large (10cm long x 6 cm wide) tatto covered up with a new design, and now that the colours of the new tattoo have faded a bit, you can see most of the original tatto underneath. This was all done about 15 years ago, so no doubt tatto technology has moved on since then, but it would still pay to "shop around" as you would with other purchases.
