If you booked the holiday and paid for it without asking your company for the leave first, then I'm afraid you don't have a case. However, you should take up the issue with the other manager being off, although it may have been a family emergency, so check your facts first before you go in all guns blazing!!

If you were allowed the leave by your company and then booked your holiday - complain like hell and insist on getting your money back for the cancelled break.
