I've been very fond of lip rings for quite some time now, and I'm really looking forward to getting it pierced but Im kind of scared becuase when I researched on the risks invovled, there were high chances of Gum and Teeth complications. I only want a small sized lip ring in the center [or right side] of my lip, so Im hoping there less risks involved, but it would be nice to get an opinion from someone who knows about this kind of piercing...I would like to know about all the risks before I get one, so many thanks in advance! n_n

[and just to add to that I also currently have braces- and im a bit concerned that that may be a problem]

Best thing would be to ask your dentist or gp - both will adbise against but they will also be able to give you advice for if you do have it done as to whether braces will be aproblem. Pretty much all piercings can have problems, all leave scars (some minimal). The ring/stud does have a tendancy to rub on gum/teeth but once you have had the piercing a hile you will be able to change the bar/stud/ring to a smaller version which may help this problem. I would contact your dentist and ask advice, I went to have mine done a few years back and I have a really bad enamel problem (I have to have my teeth 're-enamled' basically as it erodes quickly) therefor the piercing was advised against strongly because this could make things worse. I decided against it in the end (but still want one now) because I didn't want to damage my teeth further. BTW this question does get asked alot so heres a link for previous answers =D

In all honesty you're best to wait until your braces are removed. The mouth, like any part of th body, can only take so much trauma at a time and by waiting your lip piercing should heal quicker because your mouth is free from any other treatment. If the jewellery is the correct size for your lip and the piercing is done by an experienced professional to ensure that the placement is correct then you should have little to no problems with gum erosion. Of course, one of the most important factors to help prevent gum erosion and to help aid healing is remember that a piercing is a piercing and not a toy, so as tempting as it is, don't play with it! Good luck with it if and when you do decide to get it done :) x
Also think about the scar you'll have when you take it out one day...assuming you will eventually want to take it out as i haven't yet seen a granny with a lip ring :)
Hi I have had a few piercings and I also have 16 tattoos, obviously tatts cant be got rid of easily, but I have had my piercings taken out and they dont leave a scar at all, I have had my eyebrow and my top lip done, having top lip pierced again soon and I found there was no lasting effect on my teeth nor a scar. Hope this helps a little :)
My eyebrow piercing left a nasty scar of which I have had for about 10 years and is still as bad as it was. No piercing is scar free completly I have about 10 now had more and all left a scar of sorts just not always visable.
