My brother has hit 50 and is divorced, living alone in relative isolation, and self-employed although quite successful. Like most blokes it seems, he prefers younger women but hardly ever meets anybody these days. After bad experiences Internet Dating, he refuses to do that again. I'd like him to find someone special, but I don't know anybody suitable and/or single. Anyone got any suggestions as to what he can do to increase his chances of finding love? One friend reckons cookery courses are a good bet, another suggests he get a dog...

pointless doing cookery courses if its not something that interests him, looking bored is not going to attract women.
again, why get a dog if its just to find a way to talk to women
perhaps he should just try getting out more and meeting people via friends he already has? or give internet dating another try
how much younger? perhaps he should start going to bingo..
I think he should look at expanding his social circle first, work on making a few friends, ideally doing something he is interested in.
Find something he is interested in which has a social side.

Speed dating maybe - they do them for different age groups.

Maybe just join a social site (like Spice) to get out and about a bit more and make friends so he will either not be so lonely to want a woman so much or could find someone just being mixing and being out having a good time.

A singles holiday could be an idea.
The Saga web site is very good, and it is not a dating web site (though some do find "dates" and meet up).

You can discuss all sorts of topics on the various forms, and most of the areas of the UK have different activities that people organize if you want to go to them (these are not Saga events as such but people registered on the Saga web site organize them).

They also have Saga holidays which are open to singles.
having used dating sites myself, I have to say it's a bit of a joke.. these older men who think they can hook younger women.

maybe he needs to look at himself, and be a bit more realistic.
Forgot to say that Saga is aimed at the over 50s, and many widowed and divorced women in their early 50s do register for the site.

Here is the web site

he wont want the saga site, he wants a younger woman.

though I do agree with sara, he should be realistic with his "ideal" woman
I've heard Spice tends to attract people around his age than a lot of the other social sites. I know some people who go on events and have had a good time.

You never know sara there might be some young thang out there who is looking for some one like this, but she may not be the 'special' person flipnflap wants him to find.

He's far from alone in preferring younger women. He does look years younger than he is, which may help.
Why are people suggesting dating sites when the OP clearly states 'After bad experiences Internet Dating, he refuses to do that again'
It's not the age of the women he prefers which matters.

It's the women who prefer a man of *his* age......

He may have to lower his sights a bit.
I think he needs to work on not being in relative isolation first, maybe makes some friends he can go clubbing with
Wish I was 15 years younger!
How isolated is relative isolation? Have you suggested maybe taking up dancing classes? Sara I think you are being a bit harsh and its narrow minded to assume that older men trying to hook younger women is a bit of a joke. There are many age-gap relationships that work both ways around...
okay.
That's such a sad sight, a 50 year old out clubbing. Screams Desperate to me.
There are women his age who also look far younger than they are too. Maybe he shouldn't specify that he wants younger women and try someone his own age. men looking for younger women does come over a bit shallow.
There are many age-gap relationships which *do* work..........and there are many that provide great hilarity for on-lookers......

The relationships which work best are those which involve a meeting of minds rather than conforming to an *ideal* template.....
