teeth fillings

I recently enquired about removing some amalgam tooth fillings and changing them for white fillings. As it is considered cosmetic dentistry, I consulted a private dentist and was sent a 10 pages documents telling me about the different procedures.

The precautions taken to make sure that the mercury was safely extracted were on par with those in an operating theatre ( be-goggled, be-gloved, be-gowned, with air filters,etc...) .

The basic price for 4 one-surface teeth is over £1,000 excluding the (obligatory) pre and post visits with the hygienist ( £ 105 an hour ) .

can anybody tell me if those prices are the norm ? The dentist practice is in Yorkshire.

I pay 40 quid for a hygienist visit and that's in mega expensive hampshire. Pre and post treatment hygienist visits aren't mandatory but I do go every six months.
If you Google "average private dental charges" you will see lots of websites which give this information. I had a quick look at the first one but there was nothing like the treatment that you mention. Good luck in your search.
It depends on which teeth it is, back teeth cost more than front, etc. I paid £300 recently for a molar to be refilled - the mercury one had cracked so he replaced it with white filling.
get it done abroad, France I believe is the nearest for cheaper dentistry, I enquired about inplants and they quoted over here, £2000 per tooth, got them done in Poona, India for about £300 per tooth, and there was a family of 5 from Hawaii all having theirs done at the same dentist. The dental clinic was so modern it looked like the inside of a spacecraft and you could watch the work being done on a tv screen that came down from the ceiling [ not me I am too squeamish !]
Dentists ove here charge too much for private work.
my dentists did my fillings in white anyway
And they wonder why we're a nation of bad teeth. No sod can afford to get 'em sorted!

I think that I might see what prices are charged in Lancashire (near enough to go regularly ) or even Scotland ( a good reason to go on mini-breaks up there ! ).....I might consider the dentist's prices but not his hygienist's......

many thanks for taking the time to answer my question, I really do appreciate it.
