over the past four months i've put on 10kg. whilst not alot in some peoples minds it is in mine and i feel v self conscious and my clothes no longer fit. I'm now as of last week watchiing what i eat, (not a diet but being sensible and cutting down on junk) and started gym where I exercise and burn around 350calories a night. how long might it realitically take me to lose this excess?

Is that 5lbs in old money....? You should reckon to lose 2lbs max per week if you are sensible, so - it could be 3 weeks. It took me 3 months though....

hi box. yes thats approx 5lb. well done to you for losing - even if it did take a while. how did YOU do it? diet? gym?
10 kg is about 22 lbs. That's about a stone and a half which if done sensibly would take more like 3 - 4 months
LOL LOL - no. I hate the gym with a vengeance. Walking but not as much as I should, cutting out bread, taking pasta to work for lunch so I wasn't tempted to forage for biscuits... I've not lost a lot compared with some others, about 10lbs since March, but I can get in other clothes again now.

Have you signed into the AB Onwards and Downwards sticky under Health & Fitness? A bit of moral support can be good!
Unfortunately 10kgs equals 22lbs! Sorry
Ah - a bit longer then, evedawn! - not sure where the sticky has gone, but if you put Onwards and Downwards in the search box, I am sure you will find it.

thanks box - i looked (and found) that thread
why doin't you try a diet club?
If 10kg crept up in 4 months and you went back to eating as before you'd probably lose those 10 kg in 4 months or less if you're exercising more.

The trouble with just cutting down on what you eat is that you can sometimes eat more than you thought you were. You only really know if you are eating portions that will make a difference, if you monitor. But cutting out 'junk food' is a good start. Often it is achieving a lot of little gains rather than looking for one big issue, that makes the difference.

IMO you have to do a lot of exercise to burn off a small amount of food, so if it is pure weight loss you are looking for, diet is where to concentrate. And keep in mind that if you are forcing yourself to do something you don't like (and don't believe you will stick with after you have lost the weight) then you'll be back as you are now a few months later. You need to find a better diet/exercise regime that you can get into the habit of, and which suits you.
This may be of interest, new one coming up shortly though!
