Transplant on NHS or can you go private?

I want to go on the transplant list for a pancreas other than being put on a waiting list can you pay to go private over here or abroad. Thanks

Private hospitals have no greater access to donor organs than NHS hospitals do.

The need to be called into hospital at extremely short notice (possibly after waiting for many months or years) makes the use of overseas facilities virtually impossible.

If you went private all it would mean is that the op itself and the aftercare would be done privately. You would be on the same organ donor waiting list as everyone else and you would only get a transplant when a match came up - it would not be any sooner than if it was NHS and you would not be able to jump the queue because you were paying. There are very strict ethics rules surrounding organ transplants in the UK, meaning that no one can 'buy' their way to a transplant.
transplanting pancreas ? how common is this procedure ?
i too have never heard of it anne, but i looked on NHS choices and it looks like about 400 are done a year
Done in certain circumstances for patients with Type 1 diabetes with complications..e.g diabetic retinopathy or diabetic neuropathy.
tiggerblue is right,people often have blood tests for iron counts. I have always given blood and on 2 occasions my iron count was low and I had to check at the doctors to make sure my iron tabs that I was given were absorbed ok.
I have also been through the menopause ( and still get symptoms) and don't see what's to snigger about anyway!
