Please can someone help. I have been seeing a FM now for a little over a year and he recently asked me if i'd like to attend a Ladies Night. My biggest concern at first was that i don't know anyone but after talking to someone that attended one recently, i have now found out that you are asked to do a speech and its compulsory!!! This is not good as i suffer from epic panic attacks when placed in situations like this. Needless to say i am absolutely bricking it and just need to know if for any reason i will have to give a speech? Thanks :)

for 'allers' read always. Was trying and failing for humour, cannot blame a lass for trying
Ah, OK.

'Always' in German is 'immer'...
So to reiterate
'Das please always wear an apron, because it is traditional'

If you have joined AB at this late hour to get an answer I apologise for my poor attempt at anything remotely approaching an answer.
I was not speaking German, never claimed to be speaking German.
Mamya, don't ever change ♥ Mark 4:5 ;o)
das - good luck with the speech - I have no idea of the rules but if you have to do one remember that brevity is the soul of wit.

Quite a few men in my family are Freemasons dasw6 including my father and uncles, although I'm not (I've never been asked but I wouldn't join anyway). I've known my mother and aunts go to plenty of Ladies Night's and they never had to give a speech.

I don't know who you were talking to but I think they've told you a load of nonsense. Think about it. How many women would even turn up if they were all expected to give a speech to the assembled throng on ther first night? I don't think you should worry yourself. Just go and enjoy the evening.
LOL...I get the feeling I'm being 'stepped around' like so much dogsh!t by a certain person :-)
"brevity is the soul of wit" and the more brev the better :-)

I went to one of these nights and did not have to give a speech. I think someone who knows you well is winding you up. The only thing I would advise is to wear a long dress if you have one. I wore a knee length dress and wished I had done the same as all the other ladies and worn long skirt or dress.
I presume that you have been invited as the guest of the WM, in which case you will be required to reply to the toast to the Ladies. It needn't be long, a few words of thanks to the appropriate people, saying how much you have enjoyed the evening will suffice.
Hi sorry to hear about your problem, I wouldnt think you would have to give a speech if only going along for the night, I think you would only need to give a speech if you become a member. Must be very worrying. Hope this helps.

maybe you are getting mixed up with an AA meeting .lol
dasw6 you don't seem to have been back on here since you posted your question, but anyway, unless your fella is master of the lodge you will NOT have to make a speech!
Just enjoy the night, its a great excuse to dress up, and if the members are anything like the one we went to, its all very friendly and welcoming.
